Course Structure
Each Herekore Equine course is made up of nine modules, of which students must complete five in order to qualify for a certificate. None of the modules are compulsory; students can choose the makeup of their course.
Students are free to choose extra modules if they wish and these will be added to their transcript as ‘extra credit’ modules. Each module has ten objectives that they need to complete.

ES 3.1 Health, Conditions and Illnesses 2: Skin Conditions, Unsoundness
This module is about equine health, and in particular skin conditions, unsoundness, and illnesses of the head and neck that a horse may suffer from. The overall goal of this module is that students will be able to recognise different problems that can occur in a horse’s skin, different forms of lameness, and different types of unsoundness that can occur in the head and neck.
ES 3.2 Conformation
This module is about equine conformation, and in particular the measurements and proportions that indicate a structurally sound horse. Completing this module will help students evaluate the different parts of a horse’s conformation and recognise different faults that can occur and the effects these might have.
ES 3.3 Equine Behaviour/Psychology
This module is about equine psychology, and in particular the different instincts and behaviours that might affect a horse’s perception and performance. Students studying this will be able to recognise a horse’s perspective and know appropriate methods to modify unwanted behaviour or vices.
ES 3.4 Transportation of Horses
This module is about transportation, and in particular the processes required to transport horses and problems that might arise. Working through this module will give students knowledge on how to transport horses safely and comfortably from one place to another using various types of transportation.
ES 3.5 Feeding/Nutrition 1: Basics, Storage, Feed Types, Water
This module is about equine nutrition, and in particular the different types of feed. The overall goal of this module is that students will be able to recognise different feeds and their advantages and disadvantages, as well as knowing how to store feeds and provide water.
ES 3.6 Natural Horsemanship
This module is about natural horsemanship, in particular its central tenets and methods. After this module students will be better informed about the principles of natural horsemanship and be able to decide for themselves whether they are inclined to follow them or not.
ES 3.7 Paddock Maintenance
This module is about maintaining a paddock or field, in particular the fencing, shelters, plants and grass. This module will enable students to care for a paddock in an appropriate manner, to provide a safe and comfortable environment for a horse.
ES 3.8 Stable/Barn Maintenance
This module is about developing and maintaining a stable or barn, understanding different materials, and the care of facilities. The overall goal of this module is that students will be able to care for a stable or barn in an appropriate manner, to provide a safe and comfortable environment for horses and their owners or riders.
ES 3.9 Basic Equitation 2
This module is about equitation. The overall goal of this module is that students will become familiar with the basics of horse riding, including transitions, trotting, and cantering, and the use of aids. Students can choose whether to do this module in a practical manner (preferred) or in theory, or a combination of the two.
