Course Structure
Each Herekore Equine course is made up of nine modules, of which students must complete five in order to qualify for a certificate. None of the modules are compulsory; students can choose the makeup of their course.
Students are free to choose extra modules if they wish and these will be added to their transcript as ‘extra credit’ modules. Each module has ten objectives that they need to complete.

ES 4.1 Health, Conditions and Illnesses 3: Colic, Eye Conditions, Diseases/Conditions
This module is about equine health, and in particular colic, eye conditions and other conditions a horse may suffer from, and vaccinations. The overall goal of this module is that you will be able to recognise different problems that can occur in a horse’s eyes and other parts of the body, recognise and help a horse with colic, and report the different vaccinations that are needed for horses in your area.
ES 4.2 Anatomy 3: Organs, Heart, Respiration, Digestion, Immunity
This module is about equine anatomy, and in particular the brain, organs, cardiovascular, respiratory, and digestive systems of the horse. The overall goal of this module is that you will become familiar with the terminology surrounding internal equine anatomy, and how the organs and systems work together.
ES 4.3 Genetics/Reproduction
This module is about equine genetics and reproduction, and in particular reproductive behaviour, health, and development, gestation, foaling, and weaning, as well as genetic considerations to take into account when breeding horses. The overall goal of this module is that you will become familiar with reproductive systems and procedures.
ES 4.4 Training, Breaking In, & Exercising Horses
This module is about the training of horses, and in particular the training that occurs in their youth. The overall goal of this module is that you know the processes for training or breaking in horses and the reasons for those processes.
ES 4.5 Feeding/Nutrition 2: Nutrients, Vitamins, Minerals, Deficiencies
This module is about equine nutrition, and in particular the different nutrients, vitamins, and minerals horses need. The overall goal of this module is that you will be able to recognise and provide a horse with any supplements and concentrates they need in order to avoid nutritional deficiencies.
ES 4.6 Equine Therapy
This module is about equine assisted therapy, and in particular the ways horses are used to help people with special needs. The overall goal of this module is that you will be able to recognise how helpful horses are and that you will be able to participate in / contribute to equine therapy in a useful way.
ES 4.7 Racing
UThis module is about the horse racing industry, including the horses, procedures, roles, and rules within it. The overall goal of this module is to enable you to understand and participate in the racing industry, should you wish to in future.
ES 4.8 Harness Racing
This module is about the harness racing industry, including the horses, procedures, roles, and rules within it. The overall goal of this module is to enable you to understand and participate in the harness racing industry, should you wish to in future.
ES 4.9 Basic Equitation 3
This module is about equitation. The overall goal of this module is that you will become familiar with the basics of horse riding, including bareback riding, schooling and gaits, cantering, and jumping. You can choose whether to do this module in a practical manner (preferred) or in theory, or a combination of the two.
